Question

What is a child’s normal body temperature?

Answer

The normal baseline body temperature for infants is 36.9~37.5 degrees Celsius. Generally, when the body temperature is one degree below the baseline, it can be considered feverish. Low fever refers to a body temperature fluctuating around 38 degrees Celsius, while high fever is when the temperature is above 39 degrees Celsius. Continuous fever for two weeks or more is known as prolonged fever. The aforementioned baseline body temperature refers to rectal temperature, which is measured from the anus. The oral temperature is generally 0.3~0.5 degrees lower than rectal temperature, and the armpit and neck temperatures are also 0.3~0.5 degrees lower than the oral temperature.
