Question

How should pediatric retinoblastoma be treated?

Answer

The current preferred treatment method is surgical therapy. If the tumor is confined to the eye and is unilateral, an early enucleation should be performed. The cut-off of the optic nerve during surgery should not be less than 1 centimeter. A detailed pathological examination should be conducted postoperatively. If the tumor has invaded the optic nerve stump, radiation therapy should be administered, and orbital exenteration should be performed. Postoperative radiation therapy combined with chemotherapy should be implemented.
