Question

My 4-month-old baby only has one testicle. What could be the reason? None of the other babies have this condition, and I don’t know what to do.

Answer

Testicular ectopia usually refers to the failure of the testicle to properly ascend into the scrotum, remaining in the perineum, inner thigh, above the pubic bone, or even on the opposite side of the scrotum. Cryptorchidism is when the testicle does not completely enter the scrotum. This condition may improve spontaneously within the first year of a baby’s life, but if it does not, surgical treatment may need to be considered.
