Question

When is the best time to conduct a health check for newborns?

Answer

Most newborns discovered to have renal pelvis hydrops during pregnancy should undergo a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the urinary system within one week after birth. If the renal pelvis hydrops exceeds 10 millimeters, a comprehensive examination should be conducted under the guidance of a specialist doctor, including radionuclide kidney function scanning and metabolic cystography, to determine the cause. If the renal pelvis hydrops is between 4 to 10 millimeters, an MRI should be repeated at 3 and 6 months after birth. If the renal pelvis hydrops is less than 4 millimeters, it can be considered normal.
