Question
Can white spots that have appeared in the eye be treated?
Answer
A patient, at the age of six, developed white spots in the eyes due to a high fever. They have tried to find treatment methods but have not found any effective treatment. Over time, the white spots have covered the entire eye. The patient inquires about any possible treatment methods and notes that many doctors have indicated that there is no cure. Corneal white spots are usually caused by infectious keratitis or corneal trauma. When corneal ulcers exceed the recovery period, fibrous tissue develops, forming scars. At this point, the ulcer heals with scarring. If the ulcer is small and not deep, affecting only the epithelial layer, the cornea can fully recover its transparency. However, if the ulcer affects the anterior elastic layer and the superficial layer of the cornea, dense cloudy scars will remain. This opacity begins weakly and then becomes stronger, but it will never exceed the edges of the ulcer. In most cases, there is no specific treatment available, and this condition often becomes a lifelong disability.
