Question

Is it normal for a child to have a fever in the morning and evening after receiving the Hepatitis B vaccine? The child had a high fever at night after receiving the vaccine, which was relieved with medication, but they had another high fever this morning.

Answer

  1. Parents should not rush to use fever-reducing medication. If the child’s body temperature is not below 38.5 degrees Celsius, provide plenty of fluids, ensure good ventilation in the room, avoid wearing too many clothes, and do not cover them with blankets to induce sweating.
  2. If the body temperature is below 39 degrees Celsius, acetaminophen or ibuprofen (ibuprofen is slightly stronger) can be taken. The interval between taking the same medication should not be less than 4 hours. If a single medication does not effectively reduce the fever, use them alternately.
  3. If the child has another episode of high fever with convulsions, or has a history of convulsions, and the body temperature is below 39 degrees Celsius, seek immediate medical attention at a hospital to prevent seizures.
