Question
I initially received the BCG vaccine on the 33rd day after my child’s birth, and it’s now the 54th day. However, there is no redness, swelling, or scab formation as described in the information, and there are no visible scars on the back of my hand. Is this situation normal?
Answer
The reaction to the BCG vaccine is different from that of most other vaccines. Typically, about three weeks after vaccination, the injection site will become red and swollen, with the center gradually softening and forming a small white pustule. After the pustule bursts, pus is discharged, and a scab forms within 1-2 weeks. A circular scar will remain after the scab falls off.
