Question
Can asthma (acute bronchitis) lead to heart murmurs?
Answer
Asthma (acute bronchitis) may cause heart murmurs, but these murmurs usually disappear after the illness has recovered. During the course of the disease, due to pulmonary congestion and constriction, the heart’s contraction and relaxation functions may be affected, resulting in a murmur. As the disease gradually recovers, the heart’s contraction function returns to normal, and the murmur usually disappears. However, if the heart murmur persists, further cardiac examination may be required, such as an echocardiogram, to determine if there are other cardiac issues.
