Question
My child has had redness and eye discharge in the corner of their eye for several days, and the medication treatment has not been effective. What could this be, and how should it be treated?
Answer
The baby may be experiencing eye discomfort due to diarrhea, and it is recommended to increase fluid intake and use a disposable cloth or cotton ball soaked in warm water to gently wipe the child’s eyes daily. This should improve the condition within a short period. For bacterial infections, antibiotic eye drops and ointments such as Chloramphenicol Eye Drops, Norfloxacin Eye Drops, and Erythromycin Ointment can be used, along with sufficient amounts of astringent eye drops like Vitar Eye Drops. For non-bacterial infections, 0.25% to 0.5% zinc sulfate eye drops or sufficient amounts of corticosteroid eye drops can be used locally.
