What is Lutein?

Answer

Lutein is a natural substance that is widely present in vegetables, flowers, and fruits. It is a major component of plant pigments, capable of transferring the energy of sunlight to chlorophyll a and may offer protection against photo-oxidation and photo-damage. Lutein is also the main pigment in the macula of the human retina. In nature, there are over 600 known carotenoids, but only about 20 are present in human blood and tissues.
