Question

A two-month-old baby often wakes up crying during sleep, and the boy sometimes suddenly jerks, looking very upset. Sometimes the baby recovers on their own, and other times they wake up crying. Is this a normal situation or do we need to take measures to stabilize the baby’s emotions?

Answer

Unexplained crying may be related to calcium deficiency. Typically, children under two and a half years old should supplement calcium appropriately, but simply supplementing calcium is not very effective. It should be supplemented with vitamin D3 at the same time, such as cod liver oil or Echolife, and it is also important to get plenty of sunlight, with at least 2 hours of outdoor activity per day. As for zinc deficiency, for a child of one and a half years old, it may be better to delay the use of zinc supplements and obtain zinc from food instead, as long-term use of zinc gluconate can place a greater burden on the gastrointestinal tract. Seafood like sea fish, shrimp, and seaweed are rich in zinc and can be consumed in moderate amounts.
