Question
How to treat peritonsillar abscess and manage the fever caused by it?
Answer
The tonsils are formed by mucosal epithelium sinking into the substance, creating depressions known as tonsil crypts. The triangular depression on the lateral wall of the oropharynx, between the mandibular pharyngeal arch and the lingual pharyngeal arch, is called the tonsil fossa. The anterior lower part of the tonsil is covered by the tongue arch, while the uncovered upper part is enclosed by a tonsillar capsule formed by fibrous tissue. Peritonsillar abscesses often form in this area. The pharyngeal lymphoid ring consists of the palatine tonsils, pharyngeal tonsils, eustachian tube tonsils, and lingual tonsils.
