Question
What’s going on with a baby whose half of the face is red and hot, and the nose is stuffy?
Answer
Mild fever is often accompanied by red and hot cheeks, slight respiratory symptoms, and can resolve on its own within 1 to 2 days. There’s no need for excessive concern from the mother; she should simply monitor the baby’s temperature and overall well-being. These symptoms are normal during the course of the illness for 2 to 5 days after the fever. It’s advisable to take the baby to see a pediatrician who can prescribe medication based on the baby’s condition. At home, ensure the baby drinks plenty of water or vitamin C juice, eats light and easy-to-digest foods, and maintains warmth and adequate rest. Since babies may not be able to cough up phlegm effectively, parents need to pay special attention. However, if the baby exhibits symptoms such as persistent high fever, chills, headache, or even seizures, medical attention should be sought immediately. Wishing the baby a quick recovery!
