Question
My two-month-old baby, I usually take care of sterilizing the bottles myself. But today, without my grandmother knowing, she used the bottle I just washed with tap water to mix the baby formula. I’m now worried this might affect the baby’s health, especially since the baby is so young. Is there any problem with this? I’m not sure if there’s any residual tap water left in the bottle. I’m very worried and need some help.
Answer
Generally speaking, using a bottle that has been washed with tap water and then given to the baby usually poses no serious issues. Even if there are a few bacteria present, they are unlikely to have a significant impact on the baby, at most causing gastrointestinal discomfort, nausea, or vomiting. The baby’s stomach acid helps to eliminate most bacteria that enter the stomach. Therefore, in such cases, there is usually no need to worry excessively or use medication. You can observe the baby’s condition and take appropriate measures if the baby shows discomfort. At the same time, to restore the baby’s gastrointestinal health, you can gradually adjust the feeding method.
