Question

This morning, my baby’s throat has started to sound hoarse. What should I do? Can I give them cefalexin for inflammation? Previous treatment and effectiveness: No treatment, this morning is when it started to matter. What kind of help would you suggest? The baby’s hoarseness is not particularly severe at the moment, can I give them some cefalexin?

Answer

If your baby’s throat sounds hoarse in the morning, it could be due to a bit of phlegm or a slight cough, indicating some inflammation in the airways. If there’s just a bit of phlegm, usually taking oral anti-inflammatory medication and expectorants, along with plenty of fluids, can quickly resolve the issue. However, if there’s a slight cough, it might be best to keep a close watch. If the symptoms are not severe, you can treat them with oral anti-inflammatory medication; cefalexin is suitable. If the condition gradually worsens, it’s advisable to take them to the hospital for a check-up and consider oral asthma medication.
