Question
My 18-month-old baby has a large bump on the back of the head with blood stains. Do I need to take the baby to the hospital for detailed examinations? Will there be any sequelae? I’m in urgent need of assistance.
Answer
Hello, your baby’s condition is a scalp hematoma caused by trauma. A scalp hematoma is usually a subcutaneous blood clot resulting from the rupture of capillaries in the scalp due to external force, presenting with scalp swelling, pain, and redness. If there is also brain concussion or intracranial hemorrhage, symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and loss of appetite may occur. Since your baby currently has no other abnormal symptoms, you need not worry too much. Wishing your child a speedy recovery and a healthy body and a beautiful life.
