Question

How can I stimulate the pituitary gland to secrete growth hormone? My child is approaching 17-18 years old and is only 164 centimeters tall. The bone age test shows 8 ossification centers, with the distal radius epiphysis already appearing, the metacarpal sesamoid bone has emerged, and the epiphysis lines of the metacarpal and phalanges are basically fused. The distal ulna epiphysis line has not fused yet. Without any treatment, I would like to know if there is still a chance for growth, and what kind of diet should be followed on a daily basis?

Answer

To maximize growth potential, it’s recommended to consume more vegetables and high-protein foods, and to take in abundant calcium and zinc. Avoid fad diets, ensure adequate and good rest, and participate in sports activities. It’s suggested to undergo a leg bone epiphysis examination. If the epiphysis line is about to fuse but has not yet completely fused, short-term use of growth hormone may be considered. I hope these suggestions are helpful to you, and wish you health.
