Question

My 8-year-old son often gets headaches when he’s tired from playing or feels too hot. This problem has happened several times, but no detailed examination has been conducted yet. I would like to inquire whether this headache situation is serious and whether immediate medical attention is needed?

Answer

There are many causes of headaches, including colds, fever, discomfort in the five senses, high blood pressure, head injury, anemia, constipation, carbon monoxide poisoning, alcohol intoxication, and nervous fatigue, all of which can trigger headaches. Headaches during physical activity or on hot days may be due to the impact on the meninges or the constriction of blood vessels leading to increased pressure, or they could be signals from the brain indicating a lack of oxygen, requiring more oxygen. Usually, when oxygen-rich blood flows to the painful area, the headache disappears immediately.
