Question

Is it risky to get the flu vaccine now?

Answer

The flu vaccines currently used in Taiwan include whole-virus inactivated vaccines, split vaccines, and subunit vaccines, all containing antigens for the H1N1, H3N2, and B influenza viruses. These vaccines have similar immunogenicity and side effects, but it’s important to note that whole-virus inactivated vaccines may have more common side effects, and it is not recommended for children under 12 years of age. The following situations are not suitable for getting the flu vaccine: (1) contraindications listed in the vaccine instructions; (2) those with egg allergies or severe allergic tendencies; (3) individuals with acute symptoms such as fever or acute infections; (4) patients with advanced cancer, heart or lung failure, or pregnant women should use with caution; (5) those who have had Guillain-Barré syndrome are not recommended to receive the vaccine; (6) other health conditions where vaccination is not suitable or there is doubt should consult a doctor first.
