Question

The 7-month-old baby always has abdominal pain between 6 and 7 PM, with symptoms lasting about an hour, sometimes only a few minutes. This has happened 5 times, not every day but every few days. The baby has been taken to the hospital for a detailed check-up and the results were normal. I hope to know why the baby has abdominal pain and how to prevent it.

Answer

Abdominal pain in babies may be caused by gastrointestinal dysfunction, mesenteric lymphadenitis, or intestinal parasitic infections. Parents should closely monitor any changes in the baby’s symptoms. If accompanied by nausea, vomiting, or decreased appetite, it may be a sign of gastrointestinal dysfunction or enteritis, and increasing the intake of easily digestible foods may be necessary, along with symptomatic anti-inflammatory and antiviral treatment if needed. An abdominal MRI can be conducted at the hospital to determine if there is any enlargement of mesenteric lymph nodes, thereby excluding the possibility of mesenteric lymphadenitis. Regularly taking deworming medication can help prevent parasitic infections.
