Question

My baby got a vaccine yesterday, and today I found that the arm where the shot was given is swollen with two lumps. What should I do?

Answer

It is normal for babies to experience low fever, redness and swelling at the injection site, or lumps after receiving vaccines. These symptoms can be relieved by cold compresses or they may disappear on their own within a day. If there is significant regional swelling, apply a cold compress (always apply cold compresses for BCG vaccine administration). Do this twice a day, each for about 5 minutes. Also, change the baby’s underwear frequently to prevent infection if there is an area of infection. You can apply dragon’s balm purple water if there is regional infection.
