Question
Our 6-month-old baby has been experiencing diarrhea recently, with five or six episodes a day, and the stool is watery and in large quantities. Sometimes the frequency decreases but the quantity is less, and the stool is pale yellow. Two months ago, the baby was diagnosed with dehydration at a large hospital due to diarrhea, and now is following medical advice by drinking rice porridge, temporarily stopping formula milk, and only taking oral probiotics. We would like to know if we can reduce the intake of formula milk.
Answer
Based on the description, the baby’s symptoms may be caused by indigestion. It is recommended to closely monitor the baby’s bowel frequency and consistency, shorten feeding intervals to allow the gastrointestinal tract to rest. At the same time, ensure that the baby is taking in enough fluids. If complementary foods are being introduced, they should be adjusted or temporarily halted until symptoms improve, and then gradually resumed. Avoid giving difficult-to-digest foods, especially meat and high-fat foods. It is suggested to primarily feed with millet congee.
