Question

My baby is 10 days old. He used to be able to suck at the nipple, but after two days, he no longer does so and only wants to drink from a bottle. Even if it’s someone else’s nipple, he will suck on that, but not mine. I usually express my breast milk and put it in a bottle for him to drink.

Answer

Since drinking from a bottle is more effortless than breastfeeding, the baby might prefer the bottle. When the baby is hungry, he may be more willing to breastfeed. If the baby still refuses the nipple, you can try teaching him by placing the nipple and areola together into his mouth so he can learn how to suck at the nipple. If these methods are ineffective, you can also do as you are now, expressing your breast milk in advance and putting it in a bottle for the baby to drink.
