Question
A 6-year-old baby fell backwards from the bed and hit the head, with the impact location below the radiator. We are unsure if the baby hit the radiator, as there is no skin breakage, but there are large and small bumps on the head, both of which are hard. The baby cried for a while and then stabilized without any other abnormalities. After the incident, we applied oil to the area, but two days later, the bumps did not subside, and some of the blood vessels on the head are swollen. The baby has a runny nose, hiccups, and does not allow touching the affected area. No medical treatment has been sought. Is there a problem? Do we need to do a CT scan? I’ve heard that CT scans can have side effects, so I haven’t gone yet. Do we need further examination? Will there be any sequelae?
Answer
Based on the description, if the baby did not experience vomiting or loss of appetite after the fall, it is likely not serious and may just be a subcutaneous tissue injury. It is recommended to apply a warm towel to the affected area, and swelling should subside in a few days. Please pay attention to the baby’s condition and it is best to take them to the hospital for a doctor’s examination for peace of mind. A CT scan may not be necessary; it is recommended to follow medical advice. Wishing your baby a speedy recovery!
