Question

What are the causes of pediatric epilepsy seizures?

Answer

Epilepsy can be caused by a variety of different factors, but in most cases, it is difficult to determine the exact cause, especially in children. The high-risk factors for epilepsy include: 1. Neurological disorders such as cortical dysplasia, brain tumors, cerebrovascular diseases (stroke, arteriovenous malformations, cavernous angiomas, etc.), brain trauma, intracranial infection, and neurocutaneous syndromes (such as tuberous sclerosis). 2. Other diseases include metabolic diseases, inherited genetic disorders, persistent nausea and vomiting, common cold, infection, fever, changes in blood glucose and electrolytes. 3. Inappropriate treatment such as sudden reduction or discontinuation of medication, significant weight changes within a short period of time, and taking certain medications.
