Question

A newborn recently showed an increased respiratory rate, with a heavier voice, and coughed a few times after eating. Sometimes, the baby choked on milk, and there was occasionally frothy saliva in the mouth, but not much. Today, we took the child to the hospital for a check-up, and the doctor, after listening to the child’s chest, said that the child was fine and there were no issues with the lungs. We asked whether this ruled out the possibility of newborn pneumonia and what to do about the milk residue in the child’s stool.

Answer

Hello, please carefully observe if the baby has symptoms of a cold such as fever or runny nose, and make sure to have the baby drink plenty of water and keep a close watch. If there is no sign of the baby breathing too fast, there should be no major problem. Please note to maintain moderate humidity in the room and avoid excessively dry air.
