Question
An eight-year-old child suddenly developed symptoms of eyes going straight, hands and feet twitching, being unconscious, and lacking pain sensation. The child has never received any treatment before, and the inquiry is about how to receive the best treatment.
Answer
If an eight-year-old child experiences a second episode of generalized seizures without fever, the first consideration should be epilepsy. The child should be taken to the hospital immediately for a brain CT or MRI scan, as well as a detailed electroencephalogram (EEG) examination. If epilepsy is confirmed, long-term antiepileptic medication is required. Additionally, other causes such as hypoglycemia and electrolyte imbalances should be ruled out. If fever is present, considerations should also include high fever convulsions and meningitis.
