Question
Why do newborns get epilepsy? My baby often cries at night and sometimes rolls their eyes. After a thorough check-up, it was found that the baby has pediatric epilepsy. How can I seek assistance? I want to understand: Why do infants develop epilepsy?
Answer
The reasons for infants developing epilepsy may include sensory factors, such as visual, auditory, vestibular, olfactory, gustatory, tactile, or proprioceptive stimuli. Additionally, deep sleep may also be a trigger, for example, benign infantile epilepsy associated with central-temporal spikes often occurs during deep sleep, while infantile spasms are more frequent after waking up and before going to sleep. If the baby only has seizures under specific triggers, this is known as reflex epilepsy.
