Question
My baby is 18 months old and has been having diarrhea for over four or five days. Lately, the baby keeps saying they need to go to the bathroom, and sometimes they squat down and pass stool that looks like the one in Figure 1. Today, I went to the hospital for a detailed check-up of the stool during a regular bowel movement, and it was found to be loose, not purulent or bloody. Is this detailed test result accurate?? Please doctor, look at this test report and see what’s wrong with the baby. What medicine is best to take?
Answer
Considering the above situation, it’s highly unlikely to be purulent stools at this time of year since white blood cells are not present. However, if there is blood, I suggest giving your child some intestinal mucosal protective medication along with probiotic treatment. It’s best not to use anti-inflammatory medication for the time being as it’s not considered to be dysentery. This is my suggestion for the question “What to do when your baby has diarrhea for over four or five days?”. I hope it helps you. Wishing you health!
