Question
My five-month-old baby’s lips turn blue and purplish whenever they cough, but they are completely normal when not coughing. The doctor mentioned it could be due to severe tracheal pain, where coughing causes the trachea and urethra to constrict, leading to choking and difficulty breathing, resulting in the blue and purplish color. I had previously suspected it might be bronchiolitis, but the doctor said the baby doesn’t have wheezing, so it’s not bronchiolitis. What kind of disease is this, and how should it be treated? Thank you??
Answer
Based on your description, your baby’s blue lips during coughing may be due to tracheal spasm or pain. This could be caused by catching a cold, allergies, or other factors. In daily life, it’s important to prevent colds by maintaining balanced nutrition, staying appropriately warm, getting plenty of sunlight, and engaging in moderate activities to enhance immunity. As the child grows older, this condition usually improves on its own. Please don’t worry too much. Wishing your baby good health and happiness for the whole family!
