Question

My child is 2 years old, and last night they bit through the glass screen protector of a phone. I’m not sure if there are any leftover glass shards in their mouth. If they swallowed some, is that a big deal?

Answer

Generally speaking, when a phone screen shatters, it does not produce large fragments. These fragments move along with food through the gastrointestinal tract, and the protective mechanisms and self-cleaning functions of the digestive system can usually handle these issues without causing major problems. You can observe if the child exhibits any unusual behavior (such as refusing to eat, crying, etc.) in the next one to two days, as well as any abnormal color changes in their stool (such as unusual colors). If there are no such symptoms, then there is no major concern.
