Question
The baby has been running a low fever for several days. How should I handle it? Will long-term low-grade fever affect the baby?
Answer
When the baby’s body temperature exceeds 38.5 degrees, it is recommended not to administer fever-reducing medicine on your own. You can first use a warm towel to wipe the baby’s hands, feet, armpits, and groin areas to help dissipate heat. If the baby’s hands and feet are warm, there is no need to worry; however, if they are cold, you should encourage the baby to drink more water. If the body temperature is below 38.5 degrees, you can consider giving medicines like Merck or Tylenol. If the baby continues to have a fever, it is advisable to take them to the hospital for further examination.
