Question
My baby has recently lost appetite. They used to eat well, but now they won’t eat anything put in their mouth and only eat a few mouthfuls. I don’t know what to do. Can the doctor give me some advice on what’s going on?
Answer
It’s suggested that you take your child to the hospital for a check-up of trace elements. A lack of zinc can cause taste changes. Pay close attention to your child’s zinc deficiency. Parents can guess by observing the tongue coating; the small, raised spots on the tongue may appear flatter or more swollen compared to a normal child’s tongue. Give your child some appetizing foods; if your child usually has a poor appetite or is afraid to eat, you can give them something like hawthorn to aid digestion and stimulate appetite. This is more helpful than medication for the child.
