Question

My baby is vomiting severely, with some dry heaves as well. What could be the cause?

Answer

It’s normal for a baby to have a small amount of milk leak from the corner of their mouth after feeding. This is a common phenomenon known as regurgitation and usually doesn’t require concern. Vomiting may be caused by sudden changes in position, indigestion, gastrointestinal inflammation, gastrointestinal malformation, or brain diseases. A thorough examination is needed to determine the cause. Vomiting due to indigestion often has a sour smell and may include undigested milk clumps. It may also be accompanied by decreased appetite, abdominal pain, and increased frequency of defecation.
