Question

My child, who is almost 3 years old, was playing with toy cars (he always pushes them really fast and hard) and came down with a limp. Initially, I thought he had bumped himself. The next day, the pain seemed severe, and upon closer inspection, it was said to be a dislocated hip. After reduction, he hasn’t been able to walk for three days, and now it’s been four days. His right leg still has a bit of a bend, but it’s better than before. I want to know how long it will take for him to walk normally again? He has always disliked jumping and hopping; will he not be able to do so anymore? Besides these, are there any other precautions to take?

Answer

Hip dislocation may be caused by excessive force or due to ligament laxity. If the habitual dislocation is caused by ligament laxity, surgery may be necessary, and the leg may appear uneven after the meniscus injury.
