Question
My baby is almost three months old and has recently been refusing formula milk, only drinking breast milk. However, the breast milk isn’t enough, and the baby is often crying from hunger! I want to wean off the breast milk, but how should I do it? We have been feeding the baby with a mix of formula and breast milk before, and the baby used to finish 150 milliliters of formula.
Answer
Firstly, to increase breast milk supply, the mother can encourage more frequent breastfeeding sessions and consume a rich diet, such as soybean pork trotter soup or fresh fish soup, to promote milk production. If you decide to wean off breastfeeding, choose a formula milk that closely resembles breast milk in taste and texture, along with a suitable bottle and nipple for your baby. During the transition, it’s possible that the baby may resist the formula milk, but by persistently using appropriate products and gradually reducing the frequency of breastfeeding, it’s usually possible to help the baby adapt to the new feeding method.
