Question

How should one handle a child’s persistent fever?

Answer

When a child has a fever, it is important to encourage them to drink plenty of water to replenish the fluids rapidly lost due to the fever. At the same time, you can lower the body temperature through medication or physical cooling methods. Physical cooling methods include using forehead compresses, taking a warm bath, or using 30%-40% alcohol to wipe the body. Note that the temperature of the bath water should be 1-2 degrees lower than the body temperature. When observing the child’s condition, if you notice signs of fatigue, pale complexion, or other discomforts, seek medical attention immediately to prevent the condition from worsening.
