Question

Can the internal fixation device, which was taken from an X-ray image taken 86 days ago, be removed after 100 days?

Answer

According to the X-ray, the alignment is good, and the wound has initially healed after 100 days since the fracture. However, there may be adhesions of nerves, tendons, and fascia. Bone callus begins to grow after 6 weeks of the fracture. Since the child is in the golden period of growth and development, it is recommended to provide adequate nutrition. Generally, after one year of the fracture, consideration can be given to removing the internal fixation device, and starting to use crutches for activities after eight weeks, gradually increasing the amount of activity to avoid adhesions of nerves and tendons as well as muscle atrophy due to disuse.
