Question
My 25-day-old baby finds breastfeeding difficult, falls asleep after a while of suckling, cries when put down, and is restless. She doesn’t feed in the morning and can only be coerced to eat 30ml. At most, she can eat 60ml. At night, breastfeeding is normal with a 3-hour interval, and she can eat about 60ml each time. She is easily startled and her waist and wrist tremble. How can I get her to breastfeed properly without crying?
Answer
I’m glad to help clarify this for you. For a baby like yours, it’s worth considering if it’s a calcium deficiency causing the issue, as supplementing with calcium may gradually alleviate the symptoms. There can be various reasons why a baby may not breastfeed properly. Here are a few things to consider: 1. Check if there’s any abdominal bloating? 2. Have you changed the formula recently? Some babies might not feed well after switching formulas. Also, carefully inspect for any mouth inflammation that could be causing the problem.
