Question
My daughter is only 7 months old, and recently I’ve noticed that she seems to have a sore throat when she talks and has some difficulty swallowing. She also seems to have a slight fever. I want to ask, if a child has tonsillitis, how should the diet be adjusted?
Answer
When an infant shows symptoms of tonsillitis, it is recommended to seek medical treatment for the child as soon as possible and adjust the diet to focus on light, easy-to-digest foods that are beneficial for swallowing. In terms of diet, vegetables and fruits are excellent choices. They are light and rich in vitamins, which help boost the infant’s immunity. When selecting fruits, it is suggested to choose those that are neutral in nature and rich in vitamins, such as tangerines and kiwis. The daily diet should mainly consist of easy-to-swallow foods like congee and noodles, and ensure the infant drinks plenty of water. Additionally, it is advisable to avoid giving the infant seafood, dog meat, and other irritant foods, and help the infant develop good living habits, including healthy eating, going to bed early and waking up early, and moderate exercise.
