Question
My child had a fever at night five weeks ago, and then got a shot yesterday afternoon. He had a high fever again last night, and this morning we administered intravenous cefadroxil. By the afternoon, his temperature rose to 39 degrees Celsius again. His hands and feet were cold, and we checked his bloodwork, which the doctor said was normal. We’ve given him fever-reducing medication, but it only brought down his temperature to 38.5 degrees Celsius. How can we bring down his fever quickly? Please help! Thank you so much!
Answer
How long has your baby been taking fever-reducing medication? You can currently try using lukewarm water for sponge baths, which is a good method for cooling down. The water temperature should be between 34-37°C, and the duration of each sponge bath should be longer than 10 minutes. Focus on wiping the areas with skin creases, such as the neck, armpits, elbows, and inguinal region. For children with high fever or older children, you can use lukewarm water baths, slightly cooler than body temperature is sufficient. Your baby’s routine blood test was normal, and you can add Children’s Chrysanthemum and Peony Clear Heat Granules.
