Question

My baby is 1 and a half years old and has started walking with in-toed gait. Initially, it was just one foot, but now both feet are doing it. An X-ray didn’t show any abnormalities, and the doctor didn’t say anything either. But lately, it seems to be getting worse. How can it be corrected?

Answer

Many children have slightly bowed legs before the age of 2, which will straighten out later. Some children may appear to have a degree of in-toed walking. Typically, a child’s in-toed gait will disappear after the age of 7. No treatment is needed. A very small number of bow legs or in-toed gait are caused by diseases and require medical treatment. Recommendations: Rickets caused by vitamin D deficiency can lead to bow legs, so it is important to take vitamin D supplements preventively before the age of 3, with 400 IU daily.
