Question

My baby is two years old and has just eaten a crunchy persimmon and then a small cake. Will they be incompatible? I’ve been told that yogurt should not be eaten with persimmons, and now that my child has eaten persimmon followed by cake, I’m not sure if there will be any danger.

Answer

It’s not advisable. Cakes contain eggs, which are rich in protein, while persimmons contain a large amount of tannic acid. When protein meets tannic acid, it can cause re-agglomeration, significantly disturbing the gastrointestinal absorption function. In severe cases, it may lead to dry heaves, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. Therefore, it is still recommended not to eat these two foods together.
