Question

My baby is six months old. After adding rice porridge to the diet recently, I’ve noticed that the milk supply is insufficient. Since I stopped breastfeeding, the baby refuses to eat the rice porridge. After switching to formula milk, the baby’s appetite increased, but during the weaning period, the baby caught a cold and had a cough. After taking medication, the baby was drooling and had black stools. Is this due to indigestion, medication, or formula milk?

Answer

At six months old, after weaning, you can start introducing foods such as egg yolks, rice gruel, thick rice, and soft noodles. If the baby doesn’t eat anything for several days, it may be due to a weakened immune system leading to a cold and cough. It is recommended to take the baby to the hospital for a stool examination to determine the cause and then prescribe symptomatic anti-inflammatory medication accordingly. Also, ensure warmth to prevent catching a cold.
