Question

My baby is 18 months old and has recently started to sneeze and have a runny nose. I’ve given him cold medicine, but today he keeps wanting to be held and even trembles when I hold him, which has never happened before. Is this normal, or could there be a problem?

Answer

Based on the symptoms of your baby’s sneezing and runny nose, it’s likely a common upper respiratory infection, usually caused by a virus. Generally, respiratory infections caused by viruses do not lead to leg tremors in children. I suggest conducting an EEG on your child. If the results show no abnormalities, you can treat it as a regular cold. If abnormal waveforms are detected, hospitalization may be required, and neuroaminoglycan drugs may be considered.
