Question

My baby is nine months old and has a slightly yellow face. When playing with other babies, they don’t seem very lively. What could be the reason? Thank you. They can eat normally, but they haven’t been sleeping well recently. They wake up at midnight and play for about an hour or two. No other issues.

Answer

At nine months old, it is not normal for the baby’s face to still be yellow. Generally, jaundice is caused by a blockage in bilirubin decomposition and metabolism, leading to a decrease in serum bilirubin concentration. It is recommended to have a detailed blood test done at the hospital, including liver function and bilirubin levels.
