Question

My baby is three months old and their stool color varies between deep green and light green, occasionally appearing mucous-like, and sometimes very loose. This has been going on for more than ten days. Today, their stool was as runny as water. The baby is in good spirits and weighs 14.5 pounds. Before this, the baby had a bowel movement every day, which was yellow and regular. What could be the cause of this? Are they sick? The baby is currently taking a compound pancreatin powder. How should we handle this situation?

Answer

This condition in the baby could be due to indigestion. It’s not out of the question that they might have enteritis. Firstly, check the baby’s regular stool to determine if there is inflammation or other digestive issues. If the baby is breastfed, the mother should pay attention to her diet, avoiding fatty and hard-to-digest foods. If the baby is formula-fed, try switching to a more easily digestible formula for a period of time until the stool returns to normal before switching back to regular formula.
