Question
My 5-month-old baby took compound zinc borogluconate granules after having a fever of 38.5 degrees… Is there a problem? The doctor said to take it when the temperature is high, but I gave it to him even though 38.5 degrees isn’t considered high fever. Could there be any negative effects? Answer
If the baby is in good spirits, it’s best to administer fever-reducing medication only when the body temperature reaches 39℃. However, if the baby has already taken fever-reducing medication at 38.5℃, there’s no cause for concern. At the same time, ensure the baby drinks plenty of warm water to promote urination and heat dissipation. Currently, ibuprofen or acetaminophen are the safest and have fewer side effects for children. It’s not recommended to use the same fever-reducing medication more than four times a day. If fevers occur frequently, a blood routine test should be conducted to determine whether the fever is caused by bacterial or viral infection.
