Question
What causes a baby’s heart rate to increase? My baby is 18 months old, and today, when I measured the heart rate using an electronic blood pressure monitor, it was 136-137 beats twice. The baby is in good spirits, loves to play, and has a bit heavier breathing during intense exercise. The baby can run around for 10 minutes. The armpit temperature is 37.2 degrees. Two days ago, the baby received the DTP and BCG vaccines. The heart rate was measured when the baby was in a calm state. Are there any other diseases, besides viral myocarditis, that can cause a baby’s heart rate to increase?
Answer
Hello, an increased heart rate can be caused by both pathological and physiological factors. Many people know that a heart rate of 60-100 is normal, but this only applies to adults. For children between 1 and 3 years old, the average heart rate is around 127 beats per minute, with the lower end around 80 beats and the higher end around 166 beats. Therefore, for a child of 18 months old, a heart rate of 136 beats is considered normal.
