Question
My child is currently running a fever of 38.2 degrees. Do they need to take fever medication? My child has been running a fever of 38.2 degrees and keeps wanting to take naps. We visited the doctor today, and the blood test did not show any inflammation. The throat is in good condition, and the doctor diagnosed it as influenza, prescribing Oseltamivir and several throat decongestants. The child has had a fever for three days now, with temperatures ranging between 38.5 and 37.5 degrees, higher at night. Now it’s 38 degrees, and 38.2 degrees. Do I need to give them fever medication? Besides not having inflammation, why can’t the fever be brought down?
Answer
Based on your description, considering that your child may be suffering from a viral infection causing recurrent fever. Currently, your child’s temperature is 38.2 degrees, and there is no need to use fever medication at this time. You can give your child plenty of water to drink and use warm water to wipe their forehead, armpits, and groin areas for physical cooling. Please continue to monitor their temperature changes, and if it reaches above 38.5 degrees, please use fever medication promptly. Wishing your child a speedy recovery!
